Allmusic.com doesn’t like me

Looking at allmusic.com today to find track lists as I downloaded and arranged several albums I decided I want, I got this message, essentially saying that i was using their site too much. I thought it was humorous, and maybe a point of pride.

“Through traffic monitoring of our websites we have identified your IP address accessing allmusic.com at a rate and speed inconsistent with the noncommercial and personal use permitted by our site’s Terms of Service. As a result, further access to allmusic.com has been denied. Because IP addresses can be shared by numerous users, your access may be being denied based on the aggregate use of your IP address rather than your own individual use. To ensure that this is not the case, simply create your own individual user account by becoming a Registered Member of allmusic. [Click on the “Register” button in the upper right hand corner of the home page.] Once you’ve become a Registered Member and are logged in, you will once again have full access to allmusic, and will continue to have access, as long as your usage remains consistent with our Terms of Service. If you are already a Registered Member of allmusic, simply ensure that you are logged in when you use the site. Thank you.”

I need to do this more often.

I need to get motivated and update this thing more often.

They say that blood is thicker than water. Well, motor oil is thicker than blood, but you don’t hear anyone talking about that.

Yesterday, my dad and i went to see Hostage with Bruce Willis. We both really liked it. Ah, violence. Also yesterday, I finished another story. This one, a children’s tale about a boy and his zombie. What, you expected something normal? Thus far, anyone who has read it likes it. Now, if only I could wrap up the other three I have going right now.

Another six weeks of school. I am still wrapping my brain around the fact that in less than two months, I will have graduated from my home-schooled phase and be on my way to living a life separate from my parents.

Also, on April 5, I will be able to purchase my laptop for school. It is recommended that I get an Apple throught the school’s website. Anyone know anything about Mac? I’ve got questions, but no one to ask.

For some reason, I am sleepy. Mike and I ate at Jack in the Box tonight and discussed robots and selling pictures of bigfoot for quick cash. Apparently, the pictures they have hung on the wall are not for sale. Mike suggested we open a franchise and sell the pictures that came with it. I decided that would be a very expensive proposition and quickly declined. One of these days, I’m going to eat one of their cheap tacos. They look good, but I’m stuck in an Ultimate Cheeseburger funk.

I think I’m going to go try to go to sleep (i.e. lie in bed for a few hours until my mind stops racing). Caffine or not, I find it difficult to turn off my stream of thought.

Richard Nixon

I was looking at my blog today, through the archives, and decided to return to the main page, half expecting it to have been added to. Then I realized that was my job and typed this.

“We’ve never made great husbands, have we? Of course, I have a good excuse: I’m part gay.”

“Supposably, everyone is.”

The Life Aquatic is now one of my favorite movies. If only more people had seen it.

After that, I watched a little Venture Brothers.

“Doc, you have a table over there with a sign that says ‘lazer-deathray-bargin-bin’!”

Ah, the fun.

Also, I’ve added the Assassination of Richard Nixon to my semi-legal collection. I refer to it as semi-legal because ‘felony’ is such a dirty word. It sounds as though I knocked over a liquer store. Anyways, I think this is the best work I’ve ever seen out of Sean Penn and highly recommend anyone with eyesight to go see it. It follows the true story of a furniture salesman who is oppressed by the system and fights back by attempting to kill the President of the United States. It happened in 1974 and the movie follows pretty closely the events. In all, I have no idea why more people aren’t talking about this movie.

The Life Aquatic

Watching the Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou this afternoon, I’ve decided I need to get ahold of one of those uniforms. And the Adidas… awesome wardrobe.

I now officially have no use for Blockbuster.

Green-Day

Is today St. Patrick’s Day?

Hunter S. Thompson for Sheriff

I had to take my keys out of my pocket. They were poking into my theigh.

History lesson:

It occured to me several weeks ago that the move to Columbia, the move to Mizzou, that I will be making in 5 months is the first time in all of my moving about this country that I actually have more than a few weeks notice. The move from Pampa to Mesquite in September of 03 was made in something like six days. I was told one day, we went to Dallas to find an apartment, and we returned to pack and move our stuff down. Counting packing and homehunting, I’d say something like a week. At least, that is how i remember it. I had to quit my job, the job i actually loved, on a weekend. Pampa being a small friendly town, I drove to the manager’s house and sat in her living room and explained how my dad had been living in Dallas (more specifically Garland) for the last few months looking for work and now he had decided that it would be good for the family to be together. She cried and I tried hard not to. Having lived in this town for three years, I had become attached to friends and coworkers. Spending a summer with the Johnsons (Susan, Clayton, and Emily) was the first ‘hanging out with friends’ I had ever had. I went to church the day before we left and said goodbye, but several of my friends were hurried and I couldn’t seem to pin them down and tell them. Funny, it wasn’t the first or last time I left a friend without saying goodbye. I say that, but in fact, it is not funny at all.

The move to Pampa in 2000 was easy. I had plenty of warning, we looked at the town on the net and had a big going away party. Also, I was young and stupid and had little use for friends.

The move from Mesquite to Peoria in October of 03 was semi-painless. It happened a month after the move to Mesquite and I had just begun getting reacquainted with the friends I had left three years before. Again, not much notice was given.

Landing in Peoria, there was the manditory month and a half to two months of solitude. being of the homeschooled variety, I have little oppertunity to make friends outside of a church youth group. Being new in town and still living out of boxes, we refrained from visiting churches for a while, then wasted a few weeks jumping from church to church. Deciding one, I began making friends.

Again, there was the news of a move. This time, there was some warning, but as time passed, the starting date at my dad’s new job was moved forward several times and my friends were given about a three week warning. Again, being old enough to do stuff with the people you know, I had managed to build friendships. This time, I got AIM screen names, and for the most part, all is well. If only some people would actually use their screen name…

That move was in November of 04. I once again had found a job (didn’t love, but tolerated) and had to quit several weeks before the Christmas season. Needless to say, I was not very popular around there after that. I seem to remember at least one tearful coworker, though that may just be in my imagination.

So here it is four months later. I seem to have found a new group of friends and my (lower) education is nearing an end. I can’t help but think that some part of me is keeping a distance between me and them to prevent a hurt later. To complicate matters, one of my friends from Peoria is going to Mizzou. Now, not only am I trying to enjoy these friends while i have them, I’m hoping it would already be August already so that I can do the whole reunited thing and have some breathing room on campus.

That said, my torrent files are coming down really slowly. I have 54% of Shaun of the Dead. If all goes to plan, I should have that to watch tomorrow. Also, I’m trying to get motivated about a few papers I have due and a story I really want to finish but don’t have the energy to type. Any takers on a half finished story? Anybody want to finish it for me? Come on, anybody? You, how about you? Its not hard, I am just in a creative funk right now.

Yesterday, I spent most of the afternoon inserting paragraphs into a “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” text file and putting it in a pdf. Reading up on Hunter S. Thompson, I think I’ve decided to add him to my list of role models. I bought an issue of Rolling Stone yesterday just for the series of articles about his life featured in the March 24 issue. He and Tarintino have my interest for the moment. I also bought a copy of Resevior Dogs this afternoon. So to all of you that say I don’t buy anything, there you go. I would like to add, however, that Tarintino has said before that he is not opposed to filesharing. So ha.

I think I’m going to close my eyes for a few minutes.

Roy Orbison

Real quick, I was looking around this morning and found a series of stories which feature Roy Orbison wrapped in that static kitchen wrap. It’s bizzare and I’m having trouble not laughing.

Link

Also of interest, my mother got a job a few days ago and started today. I overslept and awoke to a very empty, very cold house. I’m tempted to blow off school altogether, but I find it is good to know certain things for tests and such. Also, I’ve got two (or is it three) papers to complete and a mound of other such drivil to attend to. I really should be going now. Enjoy the stories. I assure you, I had nothing to do with their writing.

Rodeohead

I found this while looking for something else, but this is great. It’s a medleyof Radiohead songs performed in in Country Western Style. I’m smiling right now, and so should all of you.

Link

The song should play in the background of this page. I also found it on Limewire, so it’s out there for all of you.

Plagiarism

I saw this on a friend’s livejournal and thought I would quote it here for all of you to read:

“During the outage, I discovered there is another room, with a blue ceiling and a funny yellow light.”

Man, I’m pale.

Red vs Blue

Ah, only three more episodes of Red vs Blue in season three. If you didn’t know, episode 51 (entitled episode 50 part 2) was posted yesterday, and it covers in eight minutes all of what was season two. Episode 50, of course, re-enacted season one, and togther, they are wonderful. To quote Caboose (as i find myself often doing):

“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the joining together of Tex and Church in eternalness… speak now or forever rest in peace with liberty and justice for all. The end.”

I reserved season 3 on DVD last week. The guy at the Gamestop said that I was the third to do so at that branch. Something like a month til it ships. The thought makes me happy.

In honor of this wonderful news, I seem to have stumbled upon the cast’s blogs.

A few things I’ve been meaning to get around to posting:

House of Cosbys:

This is one of the best short internet video serieses (plural of series) I’ve seen. A man finds a hair that used to belong to Bill Cosby and builds a cloning machine. He clones and clones, and soon, his house is full of Bill Cosby clones. What is even better is that each has a specialty: one if curious Cosby, one is bathtime Cosby, one is dancing Cosby. The later you get into episode 2, the less and less any of them actually sound like Bill, but it is still funny. Also, every tenth Cosby he clones has superpowers. Such fun.

E-Z Catch Harvester:

Honestly, this thing looks like a lawn mower for chickens. The idea is that rather than taking time to pick up each and every one of your 200 chickens and putting them in their cage (i.e. Napoleon Dynamite). At one time, when I first found this several weeks ago, there was a video of it in action on the site, but I cannot seem to find it now. You have to admit, its pretty funny.

Roadtrip:

This takes a while to view, but it is still pretty good. A man with a convertible and a camera set to fast-forward. Set to music, it is a relaxing few minutes away from things like…

Bloody Day Part 1 (Game):

I have no excuse for this. I simply enjoy needless violence. Yippee.

The Comics Curmudgeon:

Now here is my kind of humor. Take the simple, cute, and somewhat funny contents of the daily comics and add a bit of satire. The list of comics to choose from is long and the humor, I can appreciate. If you try really hard, you probably can too.

That is all I’ve got for one night. I’ll post a few more later.

Things I Don’t Understand

Why people think leet speak (or 133t sp34k) is cool.

Why I don’t have a girlfriend.

Why rappers are so obsessed with tennis shoes.

How it is that the German language sounds so angry.

Why cartoon characters only have four fingers.

Where the files I delete go.

Why I can’t sleep at night.

If you have any answers, let me know. This would just about finish off my understanding of the universe. Thanks.

Indentured Servants

The arguement has since passed, but for postarity…

I know there are about eight people in the world that know what this is about, but I wanted to share my victory. Those of you that know me, know that I am a bit (alright, maybe more than that) of an English nerd. When someone asks me, point blank, a question concerning this language of mine, I answer. When they ignore my answer and follow the flawed logic that they wanted me to prove for them, I come down like a thunderstorm from above and pound the issue until it really isn’t amusing to anyone but myself. I think it is very funny though, and laughed the entire time I wrote this rather lengthy responce to Chris Cates’s denial of the truth. You just had to bring it to the net, didn’t you? This is my house, Cates, and here, I dont make the rules, but I do have an endless resource at my disposal to prove you wrong. You picked the wrong pasty white guy to tangle with. Like I say, my Kung Fu is strong.

Gladiator

I watched Gladiator again tonight. It reminded me of what one of the friends I left behind in Texas told me after I had seen it for the first time. He said, “I like to think that Maximus went to heaven.” I told him, “No, he went to Nebraska.” Actually, I guess he went to Spain, home to his family. But something tells me that Nebraska has more wheat fields than Spain. I could be wrong, but I don’t think so.

Xbox health

If you are like me, you have never looked at an X-box and thought to yourself: “Gee, that thing could cause me serios physical harm.” I was looking on the xbox live site earlier and found this… disclaimer? Most of this is the kind of stuff you would expect your dog to know, but having been on xbox live, I cannot properly make any judgements as to the intelect of the average gamer. To quote one boy “I got mail!”

Use of game controllers, keyboards, mice, or other electronic input devices may be linked to serious injuries or disorders.

When playing video games, as with many activities, you may experience occasional discomfort in your hands, arms, shoulders, neck, or other parts of your body. However, if you experience symptoms such as persistent or recurring discomfort, pain, throbbing, aching, tingling, numbness, burning sensation, or stiffness.

Later in the document…

Consider the following suggestions to reduce the effects of low forces on your body:

* Press gaming controller buttons with a light touch, keeping your hands and fingers relaxed, as it takes little effort to activate these buttons. Also, use a light touch when using control sticks or pads on a gaming controller.
* Avoid resting your palms or wrists on any type of surface while using game controllers.
* Relax your arms and hands when you’re not actually using game controllers. See “Taking Breaks” section below for additional information.
* Hold the game controller with a relaxed hand. Do not grip the game controller more tightly than is necessary.

A healthy lifestyle can help you perform and enjoy your everyday activities, including the time spent playing video games. For overall good health, consider the following:

* Eat a balanced diet and get adequate rest.
* Exercise for overall fitness to give strength and flexibility to your body. Keep in mind that you should consult a qualified health professional to help you choose the stretches and exercises that are right for you.
* Learn to manage stress.

To this, I would like to add that I eat a terrible diet, haven’t exercised in something like 7 years, have yet to get a full nights restful sleep, and manage stress by playing video games.
